DESCRIPTION:sJoin us for a screening of the film Bears of Durango in partnership with the National Parks Conservation Association\, Defenders of Wildlife\, Sierra Club\, and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. \nThis is a free community event. Please register for your ticket at no cost. \nThe film dives headfirst into bear dens\, and follows along with biologists studying the relationships between human development and bear behavior. We will spend the evening in the Colorado mountain town of Durango\, where prime bear habitat overlaps with expanding human development\, much like Leavenworth. \nThe film follows a wildlife biologist and her team’s research efforts to better understand the drivers behind human-bear conflicts and solutions to proactively prevent them\, fostering coexistence with these large carnivores. After the film\, we will host a mediated interview with members of NGO’s and state agencies who are actively working in Leavenworth to learn how similar human-bear coexistence efforts are unfolding and what actions we can take as community members to be more BearWise.

For the kiddos a 10\,000 sq foot Kinderplatz has been added\, free for kids 12 and under\, with activities\, games\, a root beer garden\, a 62ft Ferris Wheel\, and more! SUMMARY:Fall Fungi Field Trip with Puget Sound Mycological Society
DESCRIPTION:Join Wenatchee River Institute and Puget Sound Mycological Society for the Fall Fungi Field Trip!\n*If you are already a member of Puget Sound Mycological Society\, you do NOT need to register. \nBy registering through WRI you will have a chance to go out with more experienced foragers\, potentially including guided trips. Please be sure to read any email updates closely to ensure you know how to sign up for guided trips. All foragers will have the chance to gather and learn about their discoveries from expert identifiers back at the Red Barn after field sessions. \nThe day will begin at the Wenatchee River Institute with a meeting to set the scene and provide a safety briefing. PSMS guides will take groups of people out to different locations for fungi foraging and collection. There is no guarantee you’ll find good edible mushrooms\, but you will learn the basics of foraging and get an idea of habitats to explore in the future. The guided trips will be out foraging for about 3-4 hours. Groups will return to WRI to have their mushrooms identified. We’ll close the day out with a group potluck! \nNote that the forage may include walking on uneven ground.\nLimit: 30 WRI participants \n*Required gear list and schedule will be emailed closer to the event date.
