For the last two years, Chelan County Natural Resource Department has worked with local stakeholders, agencies, and professional consultants on a ‘Whitewater Park Feasibility Study’ for the Wenatchee Basin. The two sites, Dryden Dam and Leavenworth Mill Dam, were further investigated through landowner and agency outreach, and ultimately the Leavenworth Mill Dam was selected for development of conceptual design for rehabilitation and recreation improvement.
This presentation is intended to share the project idea with the community at large and gather feedback that will help guide the direction of project development. The speakers will walk listeners through the process of the feasibility study, the site selection, and possible project alternatives at the Leavenworth Mill Dam site, including Barn Beach. Chelan County Natural Resource Specialist Erin McKay, along with Professional Engineer Mason Lacy of Recreation Engineering and Planning, and Fluvial Geomorphologist Randy Goetz from Parr Excellence, will describe the spectrum of possibility at the Mill Dam site, including opportunities for restoration of the relic dam itself and surrounding habitat, addition of a naturalistic wave feature that could provide recreational opportunity at seasonal flows, and how this concept fits into the larger conversation of Leavenworth river recreation and safety. The speakers will be happy to answer questions and provide an opportunity for community feedback, which will be utilized when deciding next steps for this project.
This is a FREE event with a donation basket at the door. Doors open at 6:30pm for a community social with beer and wine available for purchase. The presentation will start at 7:00pm.
Address: 347 Division Street, Leavenworth, WA 98826
