Doors open at 6:30pm for a community social with beer and wine available for purchase. The presentation will start at 7:00pm.

Are you someone who frequents risk-inherent environments like the mountains? Join us for a community engaged mental health discussion in the Red Barn. Instructors, Aimee Huffman and Sasha Dingle, will explore the power of mind-body training like breathwork, yoga, meditation, and nervous system regulation exercises. We’ll talk about how these practices can impact stress resilience and improve performance and help first responders and outdoor athletes recover from traumatic events.

Join Wenatchee River Institute, in partnership with Leavenworth Outdoor Center, on a relaxing evening paddle down the Wenatchee River. This is a guided trip that will introduce you to the plants (flora) and animals (fauna) of our diverse river area (riparian zone). You will learn how to be a better observer of nature and be introduced to river safety and navigation. This is a great way to build your naturalist skills and confidence on the river.

Included: Kayak or paddle board, Life vest (PFD), transportation from WRI
Cost: $60 non-member, $50 member. Not a member? Find our “Membership” page on our website.
Limit: 10 participants
Ages: 8 and older, an adult must accompany anyone 15 and younger.

Come to the Boulder Bend Glassworks studio and start your fusing workshop anytime between 10 am to 3 pm. No reservations required. Generally, participants take 40 to 90 minutes to design their glass piece.

Cyanotype Workshop

Wenatchee River Institute 347 Division Street, WA, United States

Join us for an introduction to the creative art of Cyanotypes! Learn how to create blue photogram prints with this non-toxic antique photographic process. We will place found objects from nature (such as leaves and flowers) on sheets of paper coated with a light-sensitive solution. The images will be exposed by the sun and made permanent by rinsing with water.

Sheets of acid-free, watercolor paper pre-coated with cyanotype solution will be supplied and all participants will be able to make several prints. This workshop consists of a brief explanation and demonstration of the process and then participants will make their own small series of cyanotype prints. This is an exciting and hands-on workshop.

Summer Camp: The Science in Art @ Icicle Creek Center for the Arts

Jr Ranger Program @ Lake Wenatchee

Learn about nature by having fun in this interactive activity with a Park Ranger. Join us at the South Park Amphitheater at 10 a.m. where Park Rangers will put on a fun, interactive, kid-friendly program based on the Junior Ranger Ethos and the natural world we live in. Please arrive 5 minutes early, children must be accompanied by an adult.

This event is free to the public, however, day-use visitors will require a Discover Pass on their vehicle for parking. This event takes place within the South Park. The Amphitheater is located near the Group Camp.

Plant Foraging Series: Fireweed

Join WRI for our Plant Foraging Series. We will be hosting plant foraging workshops to introduce people to the abundance of local plants and their edible, medicinal, and functional uses. Each workshop will feature a new plant at its unique harvest time. Participants will learn hands-on how to identify, harvest, propagate, and make use of the plant. Our goal is to empower people to respectfully and reciprocally engage with the plants that live here.

Cost is Pay What You Can. Choose a price that is reasonable for you. WRI offers this in recognition that not everyone can afford to pay for classes. We hope that people who can, will pay to help those you cannot.

Mind-Body Workshop

A mind-body workshop for first responders and outdoor athletes to optimize performance while maintaining stress resilience. This experiential training is designed to help those who work, play and perform in risk-inherent environments like the mountains optimize flow state, work with fear, and perform with a strong mind and flexible nervous system.

As part of this workshop, attendees will develop trauma sensitivity to personal needs when working with mind-body practices. This includes creating safety, identifying stress reactions, and learning self-regulating techniques to foster choice, context and connection. This understanding additionally supports the ability to attune and attend to the nervous system needs of others.

 

Event Series Astronomy on the Lake

Astronomy on the Lake

Join local astronomers under the stars where they will answer your deepest cosmic questions, dive into the depths of the cosmos, explore our small harmonious Solar System, and massive chaotic celestial objects.

Grab a blanket or a chair and lay out under the stars on the beach of Lake Wenatchee South Park where local astronomers and Park Rangers will explore the night sky.

Every program is different in this series and is catered to the curious and imaginative. So, bring your deepest cosmic questions and let’s blast off into space!

During the program, please avoid the use of white light, red lensed lights are allowed. If you’re driving to the event, please try to avoid pointing headlights towards the beach while parking.

Please arrive 10 minutes early, dress appropriately for the weather and possible wind; insect repellant may be necessary. The event is free. Day use visitors will require a Discover Pass on their vehicle for parking. This program will take place on the large South Beach at Lake Wenatchee South Park. There will be a red-illuminated sign at the event.
